Individuals at Gruenert Center have the opportunity to be involved in the community on a daily basis.
Several individuals work on cleaning crews in the community throughout the week, cleaning local businesses and centers. All attendees have the opportunity to travel to and make purchases in nearby stores and restaurants.
Gruenert Center also offers a variety of ancillary services and makes referrals on behalf of consumers in need of physical, occupational or speech therapy, as well as psychotherapy or behavioral supports. DPD have registered nurses and a behavioral support team on staff to work with all individuals in the agency.
In addition, the Center provides support to families. Any concerns over a participant’s well-being, whether it be physical or emotional are addressed by the Center Program Director. Gruenert Center exercises an open door policy in regards to family visits.
Gruenert Center also recognizes the importance of socialization and recreation opportunities. The center holds up to three evening socials per year. These socials are organized by staff and are strictly voluntary. The socials are extended to the participants, their caregivers and roommates whether they live at home or in group homes operated by other provider agencies.
